ENERGY STAR® – COMPUTER VERIFICATION ACCREDITATION PROGRAM

Perry Johnson Laboratory Accreditation, Inc. (PJLA) is now accepting applications for accreditation to the ENERGY STAR Program Requirements for Computers Version 5.0.

Effective July 1, 2009, manufacturers of Desktop, Integrated and Notebook Computers wishing to advertise their ENERGY STAR qualification will be required to utilize a 17025 accredited laboratory for verification testing. This mandate will go into full effect as of July 1, 2009 pending the availability of at least three accredited laboratories available to test product configurations. These laboratories must be accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and meet the requirements of the ENERGY STAR Program Requirements for Computers Version 5.0. Laboratories accredited to such requirements must be accredited by an accreditation body that is a MRA signatory of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) or by the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) for testing, such as PJLA.

ABOUT PERRY JOHNSON LABORATORY ACCREDITATION, INC. (PJLA)

PJLA is a private organization located in Southfield, Michigan. We are an accreditation body that accredits various testing and calibration laboratories to ISO/IEC 17025:2005. PJLA operates in accordance to ISO 17011:2004 Conformity Assessment-General requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies. PJLA is a MRA Signatory to the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and to the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation (APLAC) for our testing program.

ACCREDITATION PROCESS

Laboratories seeking accreditation to meet the ENERGY STAR Program Requirements for Computers Version 5.0 will be assessed by PJLA to ensure that they are in full compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2005.Once the assessment has been approved a certificate will be released outlining the specific accredited tests including the ENERGY STAR specific test methods as outlined in Appendix A of the ENERGY STAR for Computers Verification Testing Guidelines and Procedures Manual Version 1.0.

PJLA is committed to assisting all laboratories meet this new mandate. We offer a 24-hour quotation process and have available assessors to conduct assessments within a 30-day timeline. We have technical support to assist with the final accreditation decision at our headquarters location allowing each laboratory to receive their certificate within a reasonable time period.
