DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE ENVIRONMENTAL LABORATORY ACCREDITATION PROGRAM (DoD ELAP)Perry Johnson Laboratory Accreditation, Inc. (PJLA) is now accepting applications for accreditation to the DoD Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program. The Department of Defense (DoD) has recently revised their Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (DoD ELAP). The DoD ELAP is designed for laboratories that wish to test for DoD environmental restoration programs. In order to perform testing after October 1, 2009, environmental testing laboratories must meet the requirements of DoD ELAP as set by the Environmental Data Quality Workgroup (EDQW) of the DoD. Those with current DoD contracts must become accredited once their contract expires. Laboratories accredited to DoD ELAP will not be ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited, but to the DoD's Quality Systems Manual for Environmental Laboratories Version 4.1. This manual, created by the EDQW, is based on ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and includes specific NELAC/DoD ELAP requirements. Laboratories accredited to such requirements must be accredited by an accreditation body that is a MRA signatory of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) for testing, such as PJLA.
